The Empress Masako variety belongs to decorative perennial herbaceous plants. The crop is used for landscaping recreational areas, as well as an ornamental trailing plant for decorating balconies.

Plants of this genus can reach a height of 30 cm to 300–500 cm; their stems can be erect, climbing, or trailing. The flowers of Lophospermum are represented by white, red, pink, and purple coloration.
