The plant is a large, densely branched shrub with narrow-ovate dark green leaves up to 18 cm long, which are pubescent on the underside. The main flowering occurs in May, repeat flowering is observed in August.
The variety prefers moist, well-drained neutral or acidic soils and requires sheltered locations protected from wind. Planting in sun or partial shade is recommended. The plant can be affected by scale insects, Phytophthora, Armillaria, and fungal leaf diseases, and can also suffer from late spring frosts.
