The variety belongs to the group of autumn or winter apples with a harvest period in October. The fruits are characterized by low acidity, which is why the variety is not considered a dessert apple and is not consumed fresh.

Historically, the variety had significant economic importance in the Rhineland region. The apples were used primarily for the production of «apple kraut» and oven-drying to obtain dried fruits suitable for long-term storage.

The tree is described as a hardy and reliable variety with regular and abundant yields. Previously, the variety was widely distributed in the Geilenkirchen district and other areas west of the Rhine.
