The trees have medium vigor and an open crown type, which allows the variety to be used in 'fruit wall' orchard formations. The variety is distinguished by early onset of bearing and high agronomic productivity.

The variety possesses genetic resistance to scab due to the presence of the Vf/Rvi6 gene and is immune to apple aphids. As a pollinator, Canopy is of interest due to its rare set of S-alleles, S2S23.

The fruits have a caliber of 70/80 and a crisp, juicy flesh texture. Compared to the Granny Smith variety, they contain more sugars at a comparable acidity level and possess a more pronounced aromatic profile.
