The Cara de Dama variety is a local landrace, the history of which is inextricably linked to the island of Madeira. The trees are characterized by high adaptability to the specific agroclimatic conditions of the island's mountainous regions.

The primary economic use of the apples of this variety is cider production. The fruits are used in blends to impart specific organoleptic properties to the drink, including a distinct aroma and acidity. In addition to industrial use, the variety can also be consumed fresh.
