The Hudson's Golden Gem variety is a Malus domestica with medium to large conical fruits. The fruit skin is dull yellow, fully covered with light brown russeting. The flesh is yellowish, juicy, with a pronounced sweet taste, nutty notes, and a pear aroma. The tree features vigorous growth, a spreading form, and annual fruiting; it requires cross-pollination and has moderate resistance to scab and powdery mildew. The harvest matures at the end of October and is suitable for storage for 2-3 months.

The ornamental apple tree variety Golden Gem is a small tree up to 4 meters tall with a dense, rounded crown and light green foliage. During the flowering period, it is covered with small fragrant white flowers that develop from pink buds. The plant produces very small golden-yellow fruits less than 1 cm in size, which abundantly cover the tree. The variety is characterized by high resistance and is often used as a pollinator for commercial apple varieties.
