Rote Sternrenette is a winter variety with medium-sized fruits. The tree is vigorous, forming a broad, high-domed crown. The fruits are bright red with characteristic light lenticels; the flesh is cream-colored, juicy, with a sweet-and-sour taste, sometimes with red veins. The variety has resistance to scab and powdery mildew.
Roter Eiserapfel is a very old late winter variety known for its high keeping quality. The fruits are distinguished by very firm flesh and a sweet-and-sour taste. The primary use of this variety is economic, for processing, baking, and culinary purposes.
