The MELA ROSA variety group combines old local landraces historically grown in the Marche, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, and Trentino regions. The trees are distinguished by good adaptability to local, often mountainous conditions, high cold tolerance, and low maintenance requirements.

The fruits are late-maturing, with harvesting occurring in October and November. They are characterized by medium or small size, often a flattened or asymmetrical shape, and greenish-yellow skin with a pink blush. The firm, juicy flesh has a pronounced aroma and a sweet-and-sour taste.

The harvest is used fresh, for culinary processing, and for the production of juices and cider. Due to their long storage life, these apples historically served as winter supplies, retaining their consumer qualities until spring.
