The variety is the result of folk selection and was first recorded in 1826 in the Kursk region. The trees are characterized by vigorous growth and a spreading crown, and the seedlings are often used as rootstocks due to their longevity and ability to adapt to various conditions.

The fruits belong to the autumn or late-autumn ripening period. They are medium or above-medium in size, have an irregular cup-shaped or oblate shape, and a distinct aroma. The yellowish-white flesh of the fruit is juicy and has a wine-acid flavor.

Antonovka is considered a versatile variety, suitable for both fresh consumption and various types of industrial processing. The features of the variety include irregular bearing and a tendency for the fruits to drop before reaching full maturity.
