The variety is autochthonous to the Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions, historically grown in mountain conditions. The fruits have a large size and a flattened shape; their flesh is firm and fine-grained, and the taste is defined as sweet-sour.

The variety is late-maturing; harvest is carried out in mid-October. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for making jams and juices. Currently, the variety is being preserved within the framework of agrobiodiversity protection programs.

There is a mention of the variety Righetta delle Balze, which is associated with the same geographical region and may be identical to this variety.
