The Rigadin Piantassùn variety is local to the Piedmont region, specifically to the areas of Biella and the Lanzo Valleys. The name of the variety reflects the appearance of the fruits, which have a striped coloration, and the size of the tree. This is a traditional folk variety that does not have an artificial origin.

The tree is characterized by limited growth vigor, although it is capable of reaching significant sizes. The fruits have a flattened ribbed shape and are of medium size. The main yellow color of the skin is complemented by red-purple stripes and white lenticels; the surface of the fruit is slightly oily.

The flesh of the apples is white and firm. The variety belongs to the medium flowering and ripening groups; the harvest is collected in the third ten-day period of September. The taste at the first bite is characterized as sour, with a subsequent sweet and aromatic aftertaste.
