The variety has been cultivated in the city of Furnes, Belgium, since at least 1829–1833. In 1873, the nurserymen Verregeem brothers made records regarding this variety.

In addition to the name «Veurenaar», the variety is known under the names Belle de Furnes, Enkele Belle Fleur, Petite Belle Fleur, and Petit Bon Pommier. Genetic studies have confirmed that this variety is identical to the varieties Melkappel and Wasappel.

The variety is classified as Malus domestica; however, detailed agronomic descriptions such as plant height, disease resistance, or morphological characteristics of the fruit are not provided in the publications.
