The variety «Kyivska zhovtohibrydna» was created as a result of distant hybridization of sickle medick and alfalfa. Its main objective is to use the genetic potential of the parent species to improve forage qualities, increase winter hardiness and drought tolerance of the plants.

During the breeding process, forms with increased seed productivity were selected, including an increase in the number of seeds per pod and the number of its spiral coils. The plants possess the ability for autogamy, which is an important trait for stabilizing seed yield.
