The Russian variety "Selene" was created through the hybridization of the "Severnaya gibridnaya" and "Gamma" varieties. The plant possesses high competitive ability in grass mixtures, is distinguished by a fast regrowth rate after cutting, and has high symbiotic nitrogen fixation. The variety is characterized by a longevity of 4–5 years and a 4–14% higher resistance to root rot.
A key feature of the variety is its high resistance to soil acidity at pH levels of 4.8–5.5, which makes it suitable for use in the Non-Chernozem zone in single-species sowings and as part of multi-species grass mixtures. In foreign publications, the name "Selene" appears as the name of a variety for the production of dehydrated forage that underwent testing in Italy in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
