Twilight is a compact shrub with an upright habit, reaching a height of 0.6–1.2 m and a width of 0.5–1.2 m. The plant is evergreen, although it may show signs of deciduousness in severe winter conditions.

The main decorative feature is the changing color of the foliage: young shoots have a pink hue that transitions to white and green variegation. In mid-summer, the bush produces panicles with small white flowers, after which red berries rarely set.

The variety is winter hardy down to -18 °C, drought tolerant once established, and resistant to diseases and pests. It belongs to non-invasive forms of Nandina; the plant's berries may be toxic if ingested.
