The variety is a compact upright shrub reaching a height of 1.2–1.5 m. The foliage is thin and lanceolate; a characteristic feature is the contrast between dark green mature leaves and pronounced dark red young shoots.

Flowering occurs in April–May; buds have a pale pink tint, and the opening flowers are white. In autumn, small inedible red fruits may appear. The variety prefers well-drained soils and possesses winter hardiness down to -15°C, corresponding to zone 7.
