The variety is named after the Greek village of Zichna and is grown primarily in the Macedonia regions. It belongs to the Oriental tobacco group. Hybrid forms exist, such as «Zichna of Kanaloin», obtained by crossing the Zichna variety with the Marva variety.

The variety is characterized by high quality indicators for sugar, nicotine, potassium, and chlorine content, the levels of which depend on the irrigation regime. Research notes it as one of the best varieties alongside Basma Serres. The plant's reaction to potato virus Y and Orobanche infestation has been studied.
