The variety is a representative of the Ocimum basilicum species and belongs to the Genovese cultivar group. The plant forms a semi-spreading bush with a dense quadrangular stem, reaching a height of 40–60 cm in open field conditions, and 35–45 cm in greenhouses or container cultivation.
The period from emergence to harvest maturity is 38–43 days. Leaves are bright green, elongated-ovate, often have a convex spoon-like shape and sometimes a serrated edge. The produce has a pronounced aroma with notes of clove and a sweet-spicy taste.
The plant is thermophilic and dies at temperatures below 8 °C. The variety is traditionally used in fresh and dried form for preparing various culinary dishes, including classic pesto sauce.
