The variety belongs to the Genovese type, characterized by large leaves and an essential oil chemical composition with high linalool and low estragole content. The plant is used for pesto sauce production and fresh consumption.

The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, which makes it a frequent model organism in genetic research, including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. The variety is also used as a standard in the development of plant in vitro regeneration protocols.
