The variety is classified as a local landrace of Swiss origin. It belongs to the single-cut variety group, which distinguishes it from multi-cut varieties of the Bifera type.

The plant contains condensed tannins, which increase the efficiency of protein utilization by farm animals and help reduce parasite load. The crop is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, which makes it sought after in sustainable farming systems.
