Fonsa rice is characterized by a pearly, round grain and genetic proximity to the Bahía variety, though it is difficult to distinguish from the Pinyana variety using molecular marker methods. The variety has a high concentration of starch in the center of the grain and is considered a high-quality product, classified as Extra.

From an agronomic perspective, the variety is characterized by a shorter growing cycle and moderate resistance to rice blast (Pyricularia oryzae). It is intended for traditional rice cultivation conditions in the Mediterranean region, where it demonstrates stable yield performance.
