The variety appeared in Italy at the end of the 19th century. In 1945, it became one of the components for breeding the Carnaroli variety. Cultivation was interrupted due to the presence of a long awn, which hindered mechanized harvesting, but in 2016 the variety was restored.
The plant possesses rustic characteristics and high adaptability to drought and water deficit. The grain is large, with a pearly structure, and is distinguished by pronounced organoleptic properties. Currently, the variety is used as a genetic resource and a product of niche organic farming.
