The variety is used in the agricultural production of Costa Rica, particularly in the central part of the Pacific coast. Research shows that rice yield depends on sowing density and the level of fertilizer application, with the variety demonstrating variability in tillering.

Palmar 18 possesses selective resistance to herbicides such as profoxydim and sethoxydim. The use of other products, including fenoxaprop, can lead to serious plant damage.
