The variety is a whole-grain black rice with a pigmented pericarp. When boiled, it turns the water a purple hue, which is due to the presence of antioxidants in the bran, and it possesses a characteristic aroma with spicy and toasted notes.

The rice is suitable for boiling and preparing risotto. Cooking time is 20–25 minutes. The variety requires a specific approach to agricultural practices and processing.
