The plant is a representative of the Piperaceae family, originating from Brazil. In cultivation, it is not classified as a vegetable pepper and is grown as an ornamental foliage houseplant. The existing cultivar Little Fantasy differs from the main species by more compact dimensions and a lighter shade of foliage.

The plant forms a rosette of long-petiolate leaves with a pronounced texture. The color of the leaf blades can vary from dark green to purple. During the flowering period, it produces small spadix inflorescences of a greenish-white shade. The culture is undemanding, requiring moderate watering and diffused lighting.
