The variety is diploid and is characterized by medium plant length according to UPOV guidelines. In agricultural practice, the variety is used as an intermediate stubble crop for biomass accumulation and soil enrichment with macronutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
The plant acts as a non-host crop for the beet cyst nematode, which allows it to be used for reducing the population of this pest in the soil. In addition to soil-improving properties, the Atara variety is a valuable honey plant.
