Judita
ActivePhalaris canariensis L. · Canary grass
10 August 2026
The variety is classified as hairy, which means the presence of microscopic silica hairs on the seed coat. The plant has a medium-length stem and fairly large seeds. It is characterized by high yield and a strong stem.
The variety is not very sensitive to pre-harvest sprouting and is early-flowering. Due to the presence of hairs on the husk, skin and respiratory tract irritation may occur during harvesting and seed processing.
In agronomic studies, it is often used as a control standard when compared with smooth varieties and is used as a model in genetic research due to the dominant hairiness trait.
