The plant is a vine requiring vertical support and reaches 200–250 cm in height. The variety is distinguished by bright red flowering, while during the maturation process the pods change color from green to dark purple or almost black. Mature seeds have a pink color.
The vegetation period is about 72–78 days until harvest. The variety is popular for decorating gazebos and trellises. In cooking, both young pods as a whole and individual grains can be used.
