The tree possesses a dense, symmetrical conical crown with layered branch arrangement. Needles are stiff, prickly, up to 2–3 cm long, and have a silvery-blue color. Elongated cones become light brown upon ripening.
The plant is slow-growing; by the age of 10, it reaches 1.8–2 meters, and at maturity — 7–10 meters in height with a width of 3–4 meters. The variety prefers sunny locations and well-drained, acidic, sandy loam or loamy soils; it does not tolerate waterlogging.
The cultivar is distinguished by high winter hardiness and relative resistance to urban conditions. Young plants can be sensitive to spring frosts.
