The variety is the result of folk selection on the Planèze basalt plateau in Auvergne at an altitude of 800–1200 meters. The plant is adapted to the local microclimate with abundant sun, winds, and moderate precipitation. The variety has the status of a landrace and is traditionally grown using artisanal methods.
The seeds have a light yellow color. Consumer qualities are characterized by a thin skin, the absence of a mealy texture, and a pronounced sweet taste. The peas contain up to 27% protein, are distinguished by a low crude fiber content, and are easily digestible, which makes them sought-after in cooking for the preparation of soups and other dishes.
