S.FRANCESCO is a traditional variety of Italian origin. The variety is characterized as self-fertile, not requiring the planting of pollinators, and possesses good disease resistance. At four years of age, saplings in nurseries reach a height of 180–200 cm.
The fruits of the variety are medium-sized and characterized by firm flesh and a pleasant taste. The orange skin acquires a reddish tint upon full ripening. The harvest is suitable for both fresh consumption and canning in syrup.
The variety is mentioned in biochemical studies of traditional crops in the Campania region, where the composition of catechins and epicatechins in its fruits was studied.
