The variety is a traditional regional German variety common in the Middle Rhine area. In agronomic literature, it is known under the primary name Geisepitter, while Bornhofener serves as one of its many synonyms.
The tree is noted for vigorous growth and high yield, although some descriptions indicate moderate vigor. The fruits belong to the heart-shaped group, are of good size, with soft flesh and a light red or yellow-red color.
The variety falls into the category of very early or early, ripening in mid-June. It is characterized by good resistance, and due to its early ripening period, it is slightly susceptible to cherry fruit fly infestation. The fruits are intended for fresh consumption soon after harvest.
