The tree is vigorous, forming a broad-oval crown of moderate density. The variety is characterized by firm fruit flesh, which allows the fruits to retain their shape well during culinary processing and canning.

Due to the variety's long history, there are many synonyms, and in various countries, light red or yellow-red firm sweet cherries of similar type may be described under this name. This variety should be distinguished from "Schneiders Späte Knorpelkirsche", with which it is sometimes erroneously identified.
