The variety is mentioned in Portuguese genetic resource catalogs, but detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant are absent from open sources. Existing information is limited to inclusion in collection lists and results of genetic analysis based on SSR markers.

The results of genetic identification indicate that the material under the name Maringa is identical to the popular sweet cherry cultivar Van. This may indicate synonymy or specific features of the distribution of this genetic material in European collections.
