The variety is classified as late, with ripening occurring in July. The vigorous tree can reach 10–15 meters in height if left unpruned, forming a broadly pyramidal or rounded crown. The variety is self-incompatible and requires pollinator varieties for fruit set.
The fruits are large or very large, wide-heart-shaped or rounded in form. The skin is glossy, yellow with a bright red blush. The flesh is light yellow, firm, and juicy, possessing a sweet taste with pleasant acidity. The variety is suitable for fresh consumption and various types of processing.
There is confusion in the classification, as the variety is often identified with Büttners Rote Knorpelkirsche, although DNA studies sometimes reveal differences. The fruits have good transportability but are prone to cracking when there is excess moisture during ripening.

Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
