The Otesani 8 rootstock was obtained as a result of clonal selection of local plum forms. Its main purpose is for use as a base for grafting plum and apricot trees to increase the longevity of plantations.
This rootstock is capable of reducing the growth vigor of grafted varieties. It was created to ensure adaptation to heavy soils with high clay content, as well as to achieve resistance to Plum pox virus. Studies note that it influences physiological processes and the mineral composition of the leaves of grafted trees.
Propagation of the rootstock is characterized by certain difficulties: in particular, cases of low rooting success have been recorded when using hardwood cuttings.
