The BARRIER I rootstock is an interspecific hybrid of Prunus persica × Prunus davidiana. Its root system is deep and branched; trees grafted onto it are characterized by vigor comparable to the GF 677 rootstock. It has been noted that the rootstock is capable of delaying tree development phases, including flowering and ripening, by 5–7 days.
The plant possesses resistance to the root-knot nematodes Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne hapla. The rootstock adapts well to various soils, including calcareous ones, and also exhibits tolerance to drought, waterlogging, and soil "fatigue," allowing the use of sites after the grubbing of peach orchards. The rootstock propagates well by cuttings and micropropagation, demonstrating good compatibility with grafted varieties.
