Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety represents a group of genetically heterogeneous populations that emerged at the end of the 19th century. The medium-sized fruits have skin with fine velvety pubescence and an intense red blush. A characteristic feature is the deep and open suture at the base, which gave the variety its name.

The white-green flesh has a fine texture, a pronounced aroma, and a balanced flavor, and it separates easily from the pit. The variety is divided into forms according to maturity group: early forms ripen around August 20, late forms in early September.

The plant possesses adaptability; however, the fruits are poorly suited for long-distance transport and storage, which led to the variety being displaced from commercial horticulture. Currently, the variety is maintained as a local type used for fresh consumption and processing.
