The variety is the result of breeding obtained from crossing Flamingo and Springtime. It belongs to the group of very early yellow-fleshed varieties, in which the pit easily separates from the flesh upon full ripening. The variety is capable of providing good yields, despite its early maturity period.
The plant has a low chilling hour requirement, comparable to or lower than the Springtime variety. In scientific studies of peach genetic maps, Earligold is used as a parental genotype for creating mapping populations.
