Variety description

10 August 2026

The Early Elberta variety, also known as Improved Elberta or Gleason Early Elberta, is a vigorous tree with a spreading crown, the height of which can reach 4.5–7.5 meters. The variety is self-fertile and requires 600–950 hours of winter chilling for fruit bearing; it prefers full sun exposure and good soil drainage.

The fruits of the variety are large, weighing 140–160 g, round in shape, with golden-yellow skin and a pronounced red blush. The flesh is yellow, juicy, and firm; the pit separates easily. Ripening dates fall in mid-July or early August, which is 2–3 weeks earlier than the base Elberta variety.

Early Elberta is versatile in application: the fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, home processing, and commercial canning. The variety is productive, although it can be sensitive to late spring frosts and susceptible to diseases.
