The variety «Спутник-1», also known as «Підщепний 1», was bred for use as a seed rootstock for the propagation of peach and nectarine. The plant is zoned for use in southern regions.
There is a separate rootstock named «Спутник», which is a hybrid of Prunus kansuensis × Prunus davidiana, differing from the selection of the N.N. Grishko National Botanical Garden. These forms are not fruit-bearing varieties, therefore fruit characteristics for them are not defined.
