The plant is used as a rootstock for cherry and sweet cherry trees. Trees grafted onto it may exhibit signs of dwarfing compared to trees on seedling rootstocks. This rootstock may show an imbalance accompanied by excessive fruiting, a reduction in fruit size, and a decrease in the growth rate of new shoots.

The rootstock is susceptible to phytoplasma diseases of the X-disease group, which cause systemic infection of the tree, stunting of leaves and fruit, and delayed ripening. Its use as a rootstock in a number of regions is assessed as limited.
