The variety Franziska R. is a sport of the Michelle-Marie variety. The plant belongs to the species Rhododendron simsii Planch., known as pot azalea.
During studies, high susceptibility of this variety to broad mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus) infestation was identified. Upon infestation, an increased content of salicylic acid is noted in the plant tissues, which indicates a protective response of the organism.
