The bushes are medium-sized, with moderate thorniness of the shoots. The berries are red, sometimes with a slight waxy bloom, and have thin skin. Fruit weight averages 3.5–4.0 g, and up to 7 g according to some data. The berry flesh is juicy and tender, the taste is sweet.
The variety is self-fertile and winter-hardy, and possesses resistance to major diseases, including Sphaerotheca. The origin of the variety is linked to breeding work crossing the «Houghton» variety with European gooseberry varieties. The berries are suitable for fresh consumption and all types of processing.
