The plant is vigorous and productive. The stems are covered with numerous strong prickles of a purple hue. The fruits of the variety are large, blunt-conical in shape, and dark red in color, possessing a soft, juicy consistency and containing large drupelets.

The variety belongs to the summer-bearing forms and was historically intended for sale in the fresh produce market. Literature from the beginning of the 20th century mentioned the existence of a less productive and small-fruited form known as Common Fillbasket.
