The WSU 2166 variety, known under the trade name Cascade Premier, was obtained by crossing breeding lines WSU 1447 and WSU 0697. The plant belongs to the floricane fruiting type and matures early, comparable to the Willamette variety.
The berries are distinguished by their large size, firm structure, attractive appearance, and good flavor. The ease of fruit detachment from the receptacle, combined with their firmness, ensures the variety's suitability for mechanical harvesting, freezing, and fresh market sales.
The variety demonstrates resistance to root rot caused by the pathogen Phytophthora rubi.
