The variety has compound leaves that predominantly consist of five leaflets. Spines are present on the shoots, which are brown with purple hues.
The primary purpose of the variety is its use as a genetic resource and standard in comparative trials. In scientific literature, the variety is studied for resistance to fungal diseases of the shoots, including Fusarium avenaceum.
