Loch Ness
ActiveRubus L. · Blackberry
Scottish Crop Research Institute, GB
10 August 2026
The plant forms vigorous erect canes 2.5–3 meters high, which require trellising at high yields. The variety is thornless and belongs to the type that bears fruit on second-year canes.
The berries have an oblate-conical shape, a glossy black color, and an average weight of about 6–7 grams. The fruit flavor is rated as sweet with a slight acidity, which makes the variety suitable for commercial use due to good keeping quality.
The variety possesses resistance to anthracnose, orange rust, and rosette (double blossom). Winter hardiness is rated as moderate, at approximately -17°C, which is why in cold regions the canes require covering.
