The variety belongs to late-flowering types, which extends the period of vegetative growth. The plant forms a dense stand and a deep taproot system that penetrates up to 120 cm. It possesses high drought tolerance and good lodging resistance.

Athlet is used in crop rotations with sugar beet to reduce beet cyst nematode populations. As an intermediate crop, it prevents nitrogen leaching, protects the soil from erosion, and accumulates humus. The variety has low winter hardiness, due to which it is guaranteed to winterkill, facilitating soil preparation for spring field work.
