The Efialto rootstock possesses high resistance to tomato mosaic virus, leaf mold (races 1-5), Verticillium wilt, and Fusarium wilt (races 0, 1), as well as Fusarium root rot. Intermediate resistance has been recorded to root-knot nematodes of the species Meloidogyne arenaria, Meloidogyne incognita, and Meloidogyne javanica.

The use of this hybrid as a rootstock is aimed at increasing the survival and productivity of commercial tomato varieties under intensive cultivation conditions or in the presence of soil-borne pathogens. The morphological characteristics of the plant itself are not significant for commercial fruit production, as Efialto is not intended for human consumption.
